Kandhamal is a district in Odisha, India, nestled in the Eastern Ghats. Its tribal farmers have cultivated turmeric for centuries using traditional, chemical-free methods. The region's unique soil and altitude give Kandhamal turmeric its distinctive deep-golden colour and a curcumin content of 3–5% — nearly 3× higher than commercial turmeric. It received a GI tag from the Government of India in 2019.
Our cashews are grown in the high-altitude forests of Koraput, Odisha, by tribal farming families. They are naturally larger, creamier and richer in flavour than mass-farmed cashews. We offer them in 4 clean variants — Natural, Lightly Salted, Masala, and Black Pepper — slow-roasted in small batches with zero oil, no artificial flavouring, and no preservatives.
Mahua (Madhuca longifolia) is a forest tree sacred to tribal communities across Odisha. Its flowers are naturally sweet and have been used for centuries as a food and energy source. You can eat roasted mahua flowers as a snack, brew them as a herbal tea, use them as a natural sweetener in cooking, or blend them into energy bars and desserts. They are rich in antioxidants, natural sugars and minerals.
Butterfly pea flowers (Clitoria ternatea) are naturally deep blue and packed with anthocyanins — powerful antioxidants used in Ayurvedic wellness for centuries. Steep 5–8 flowers in hot water for 3–5 minutes to get a vivid blue tea; add lemon and watch it turn purple. They are completely caffeine-free and also used to colour rice, cocktails, lemonades and desserts naturally.
Yes, our roasted mahua flowers are completely safe to eat as a food. Mahua flowers can ferment in liquid to produce traditional mahua liquor — but our product is a dried, roasted food, not a fermented one. There is zero alcohol content. The taste is naturally sweet with a faintly floral, caramel-like flavour. Suitable for all ages.

A Geographical Indication (GI) tag is an official Government of India certification recognising that a product comes from a specific region and has qualities tied to that origin. Kandhamal turmeric received its GI tag in 2019, acknowledging the district's unique climate, forest soil and centuries-old tribal farming practices as the source of its superior curcumin, oleoresin and volatile oil content — qualities that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
Yes — every UTKARA product is 100% plant-based and naturally vegan. Our Kandhamal turmeric, Koraput cashews, roasted mahua flowers and butterfly pea flowers are all single-ingredient whole foods sourced directly from tribal farmers in Odisha. No dairy, no animal products, no artificial colours, no preservatives — just pure food you can trace to the farm.
We source all four products — turmeric, cashews, mahua flowers and butterfly pea flowers — directly from tribal farming communities in Odisha, with full traceability to the farm. Every batch is lab-tested before dispatch. We don't resell wholesale; we build direct relationships with growers so more of the price goes to the farmer and none goes to middlemen.
It depends on what you're looking for. For everyday cooking and wellness, start with our Kandhamal Turmeric. For a healthy snack, our Koraput Cashews are hard to stop eating. For a caffeine-free herbal tea with a stunning colour-change effect, try Butterfly Pea Flowers. And if you want to explore something truly rare, Roasted Mahua Flowers are unlike anything else — a forest sweetener straight from Odisha's tribal heartland.
