Every pack of UTKARA turmeric maps back to the tribal village in Kandhamal where it was grown, the KASAM cooperative record, the harvest season, and the independent lab report that verified its quality. Not a story. A documented chain.
Most food brands tell you where a product is from. We show you every step between the farm and your kitchen, with third-party documentation at each stage.
Turmeric is grown at 900–1,200 m elevation in mineral-rich laterite soil by tribal farming families who have cultivated curcuma longa here for generations. No synthetic fertilisers. No pesticides. The altitude and traditional methods produce a curcumin concentration that industrial farming cannot replicate.
All farms are registered with the KASAM cooperative — the body that holds the Government of India's Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Kandhamal Haldi, making regional origin a legally enforceable claim.
Meet the farming families →We source directly from KASAM — no intermediaries, no commodity aggregators. Each procurement is documented with the cooperative's records: the member farms, the harvest season, and the tonnage. This is what makes our farm-level traceability possible rather than aspirational.
Direct sourcing also means a higher share of the purchase price reaches the farming families. We don't extract margin at every intermediary step.
Raw turmeric rhizomes are cleaned, dried at controlled temperatures, and ground using stone-cold process grinding to preserve curcumin and volatile oils. Every production run generates a unique batch code that links back to the KASAM sourcing record from Step 2.
This batch code is printed on every pack. It is your direct link to the documented origin chain.
Before any batch ships, a sample goes to an NABL-accredited independent laboratory for testing across four categories: curcumin percentage, heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury), pesticide residues (33-panel screen), and microbial safety.
We publish every report publicly. Not selectively — every batch. If a batch fails any parameter, it does not ship.
Read the lab reports →The batch code on your pack links to a digital record that includes: the source cooperative entry, the harvest season, the processing date, and the lab report for that batch. Scan the QR on your pack or enter the code below to see the full chain.
You are not buying a brand's story about where its product comes from. You are looking at the actual documentation.
Shop UTKARA Turmeric →FSSAI surveys consistently find that a large percentage of turmeric samples sold in Indian markets contain adulterants — from starch fillers to artificial coloring agents to chalk powder. Batch-level lab reports are the only proof that what's in your pack is what the label claims.
An organic certification tells you a product was grown without synthetic inputs. It says nothing about curcumin content, regional origin, or whether premium varieties were blended with commodity grades. GI tags and batch-level testing close these gaps.
In a fragmented supply chain with many intermediaries, farmers have no bargaining power and receive commodity prices regardless of quality. Traceability creates accountability: when buyers can verify origin, they can pay for it — and that price reaches the actual grower.
The health benefits attributed to turmeric are largely driven by curcumin. Commodity turmeric averages 0.5–1% curcumin. Kandhamal turmeric averages 3–5%. You cannot tell the difference by looking at the powder. Only a lab report can confirm what you're actually consuming.
Every UTKARA pack carries a batch code. We are building a public batch-lookup tool so that anyone can enter their code and see the complete origin record — cooperative entry, harvest season, and lab report — for the exact batch in their kitchen.
